5 Reasons to Absolutely Love San Diego California

There are lots of reasons to love San Diego, California – beaches, warm dry weather, major attractions like Sea World and the world renown San Diego Zoo, wineries, the food, the surfing, the parks, the history, and more. But here are a few reasons from a photographers point of view.

Number One: The Sunsets Over The Water

As an East Coast dweller, seeing a sunset over the water is a real treat. The only other time I see that is on an island off the coast of Maine or when I’m down in Southwestern Florida.

Number Two: Seals and Sea Lions

Watching the seals and sea lions basking on the rocks along the shore in La Jolla was a real treat. We used to the occasional seal on Mount Desert Island, Maine when we lived there and sometimes on Cape Cod but not like this, and not this up close and personal. I also spotted a lot of dolphins from the cliffs around Torrey Pines State Park and the Glider Port area.

Number Three: The Natural Beauty

For all of the paid attractions trying to separate you from your money, nothing really beats the artist-inspiring raw natural beauty of the area from the wine country in Escondido to Point Loma, to cliffs of La Jolla, to Torrey Pines State Park to just a beach where you can watch the surfers on the rolling waves.

Number Four: The Piers

The San Diego region sports a number of piers and boardwalks you can explore, walk out over the ocean, fish from, watch surfers and enjoy the ocean breezes. Some like Crystal Pier at Pacific Beach even have cottage on them that you can rent. Others like the Ocean Beach fishing pier have a restaurant on them. Others like Scripps Pier in La Jolla Shores are for research only but you can check out underneath the pier.

Number Five: Balboa Park

Balboa Park is an amazing destination in which one could spend days exploring the various natural and man made featuring including something like 14 museums including the amazing Model Railroad Museum and the Museum of Photographic Arts as well as modern and more traditional museums of art located in the same park.

Balboa Park also houses one of the finest zoos in the world, the world renown San Diego Zoo.

There are five reasons and I didn’t even get to the golf, food, music, Gaslamp District, Old Town, Waterfront Park, Liberty Station or Coronado Island. So much to see and do in San Diego!
