One of my hobbies, collecting and playing pinball. It all started with a “Wipeout” pinball machine purchase online from Jersey Jack about seventeen years ago.
I didn’t have any room for a pinball machine in our small bungalow in Arlington, MA, but we purchased a weekend getaway place in North Conway for ski trip so when I saw a ski themed pinball machine listed for only $650, I jumped at it.
Shipping from NJ was only $65. I came via common carrier on a wooden pallet. My pinball collector buddy John, went with me to pick it up. I took the seats out of my original Toyota RAV4 and it slid inside.
Back in 2003, John was starting to expand his pinball collection. He had a Genie in college, which he sold when he got married but had later replaced it with a High Speed and recently purchased a sweet Adams Family soon to be joined by a Twilight Zone. His collection stayed this way for about 15 years until recently when he joined a pinball league and started to amass and repair a large collection of early electro-mechanical machines.
With my kid off at college and now for the first time in a house with a good spot for a few machines, I’ve started to expand beyond my first pinball machine with a Lord of The Rings pinball arriving soon. I probably will have room for one more machine after that…
