The Cidercade is a gaming venue with over 170 traditional arcades & pinball machines plus a cider & wine bar.
We went around 3:30 on a Monday in June and there were not many people in the joint. The AC was blasting. The Crackberry cider was wonderful and an amazing sensation of noise, blinking lights and clicking buttons filled our senses.
Being pinball fanatics we headed right over to the row of over 20 pinball machines. They were all modern Stern machines from an early World Cup Soccer to the latest machines – Led Zeppelin, Avengers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They even had some rarer Stern titles such as Beatles, Elvira and Heavy Metal.
Most of the games were feature-packed “Limited Edition” models. One glaring exception was the Led Zepplin pinball machine that really seemed empty since it was the pro model.
The only non-Stern machine I noticed was a Monster Bash Remake by Chicago Gaming Company.
About three hours later after trying out about 80 percent of the machines, we looked up from our pinball stupor at the rest of the two-room arcade full of modern, large arcade games. They have all kinds of sit down racing games, carnival games, shooting games.
Kids young and old can have fun here. On check-in you get an armband if you want to drink. They don’t have any food but they do have some vending machines if you get hungry and as we were leaving around 6 pm, a BBQ food truck was setting up in the parking lot.
The place opens at 10 am all week and stays open until midnight during the week and to 1 am on Friday and Saturday. I imagine it gets busy at night.
I played so many newer titles that I haven’t played before including Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Led Zeppelin, Elvira, Beatles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Monster Bash remake, Heavy Metal and Iron Maiden.
The only downside is this incredible row of modern Sterns kind of blends all together after a while and with the noise, it’s hard to figure out what is going on with these deep ruleset games.
A row of 80s pins with similar sounds, rules and shorter ball times are easier to grasp in the arcade environment. Many of these newer games are best played in home environments.
