When Canon released it’s forward thinking mirror-less cameras in the “R” line a few years back, there were only three top of the line, professional level lens released. Those lenses were spectacular but also came with a hefty price tag around $2K each.
Eventually Canon released some medium range lenses aimed at non-professional camera enthusiastic including the $400 Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM Lens and the $600 Canon RF 85mm F2 Macro is STM, Compact Medium-Telephoto Black Lens.
I have the 35mm and use it all the time as a compact walking around lens. I just ordered the 85mm macro primarily because I’m working on digitizing a bunch of vintage slides and the 35mm macro has to be too far away. I’m looking forward to exploring the 85mm for my portraits and macro shots.
