This iconic row of twenty-two identical beachfront rental cottages on Cape Cod provides a classic, vintage vibe for your beach house decor.
Photographed recently by fine art photographer Edward M. Fielding as part of a series called “The Flower Cottages”, this angle shot from the beach looking back at the cottages and the retaining wall creates a mesmerizing look seemingly back in the time.
These cottages look the same as they did back in the 1930s when Cape Cod wasn’t much more than a single dirt road, a few fishing ports and the early beginnings of a tourist industry.
America’s were just starting to experience some vacation time and the automobile was just starting to become a reality for those who could afford to take the family on a summer break.
Simple cottages such as Day’s Cottages in Truro, began to spring up along the roadsides and in tourist destinations such as the beach. A bedroom, small bath, living room and kitchenette was all the luxury one needed. Direct access to the beach, a little store and a gas station provided all the needs of these early vacationers.
