We hooked up with some friends and found ourselves vacationing in the Narragansett area of Rhode Island. Great seafood, beaches and cottages. Had some scary fun scootering around Block Island.
Many beautiful homes both new and old dot the New England shoreline. This renovated Victorian-styled home lit each evening from the sun pouring down the beach access road.
Grab the car ferry or high-speed passenger-only ferry from The Port of Galilee, part of Narragansett Rhode Island, an authentic working New England fishing village. Block Island is only 30 minutes away on the high-speed version and the ride is fun, snacks, beer and drinks can be had as the boat zips along the channel between Block Island and the mainland. You’ll see all kinds of boats on your way including container ships, oil ships and fishing boats.
On Block Island you can rent bike or mopeds/scooters or walk to the beach. Or explore the shops and restaurants around the harbor.
We rented scooters for two hours and explored around a bit. It was a bit scary but we eventually got the hang of them. Then we had lunch at the National Hotel on the deck and took in the scene of the busy harbor. After lunch, we checked out the shops, got ice cream at Ben and Jerry’s and people watched until it was time to board the ferry back home.
Relaxing nights listening to the crashing waves awaits in this area known for its beaches, surfing, boating and seafood including clam fritters or clam cakes, “stuffies” which are breaded clams baked in a real clamshell, flounder, lobster and clam chowders.
Fine art print and products such as the shower curtain above are available with Rhode Island images.
