The Corbin Covered Bridge is a traditional, historic New England covered bridge that is celebrating the 25 year anniversary of it’s rebuilding after an arsonist burned down the original bridge in May 23, 1993.

At one time Newport, New Hampshire had 19 covered bridges. Today there are only three left. The Corbin Covered Bridge, built over the Sugar River basically to reach the sprawling Austin Corbin Estate just beyond the bridge and two covered railroad bridges which are now part of a rails-to-trails recreational path.

The Corbin estate is a 100-acre piece of property in Newport, New Hampshire, once owned by the creator of the Long Island Railroad and creator of “Corbin Park” a huge private hunting reserve and then later by the Ruger family, the inventor of the light machine gun.

The original bridge was a Town lattice truss design built in the 1840s. When it burned it was on the National Historic Register.

The Town lattice truss is a widespread and popular design. It was patented by Ithiel Town and used all over the country.
