Seven or Se7en is a gritty crime thriller about tracking down a serial killer who is ticking off the boxes of the seven deadly sins. Each crime scene contains a carefully staged murder scene and the victims are forced to commit sins before being killed.
The Seven Deadly Sins:
- Pride: a sense of one’s self-worth that is out of proportion to reality
- Envy: a desire for what others have that leads to resentment and ill-will
- Wrath: an intense and often violent anger that seeks revenge or harm
- Sloth: a laziness or negligence that neglects one’s duties and responsibilities
- Avarice: a greed or covetousness that hoards or misuses wealth and resources
- Gluttony: an overindulgence or excess in food, drink, or other pleasures
- Lust: an inordinate or illicit sexual desire that disregards morality and dignity
This thriller from 1995 was directed by the excellent David Fincher and has an all star cast of Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, with Gwyneth Paltrow and John C. McGinley.
A twist ending is one few will ever forget.
Originally screened in front of test audiences, it was anitipated to be a flop but turned out to be one of the top grossing movies of 1995 and has maintained strong following over the years.
