Jeff Foliage Stresses Me Out – but in a good way

They call him Jeff “Foliage” but his real name is Jeff Folger  and recently he was featured on the CBS Sunday Morning news show because for the last twenty years after retiring from the Airforce, Jeff and his wife Lisa have been driving the roads all over New England exploring and photographing fall foliage spots.

He has become an expert on the region, the Autumn season and the best places to capture fall colors.  From his blog – https://www.jeff-foliage.com/  where he dispenses free advice on locations, timing, where to go, what to see and how to shoot it.

He is so enthusiastic and determined to capture the season, it makes me feel like a slacker if I’m not out photographing 24/7.  He stresses me out!

He has become to go to person for fall foliage and news shows like the BBCs Autumnwatch and the CBS Sunday Morning show of sought him out for consultation as well as well-heeled private clients who want a guide.

I know Jeff from the forums of Fine Art America  and I can testify to his passion for the fall leaves of Autumn in New England and to his heart felt desire to share his knowledge with the world.

He is a real enthusiast for finding, documenting and sharing his knowledge of New England.  Once he told me he has a database of just about every red barn in New England.  Amazing.  I travel around Vermont and New Hampshire finding spots to photograph rather randomly but he has a rather methodical method so he can return to the same spot at different times during a season to perhaps capture better light or better color.

After all the fall season in New England is tricky.  So many raining or overcast days.  Some years are better than others. It’s really a crap shoot. So having a guide like Jeff around helps to make the most of the season.

Knowing exactly WHERE to go can be a challenge. But it’s an obsession for one colorful character.

Jeff’s last name is really Folger, but he goes by “Jeff Foliage.” And he REALLY loves leaves. “My niche in life is the fall colors,” he told Conor Knighton. “It’s such a little present. It’s like Christmas for me. And I love unwrapping my presents! And I’m running around New England finding all these wonderful colors out here.”
