The Ford Maverick grabbed my interest as soon as it was announced back in 2021 — a smaller, fuel efficient pickup under $25,000. This was the small truck I needed for trips to the dump, the occasional pinball machine pick up, hauling away free firewood etc. But unfortunately, I missed the first year. The truck was so popular (who would have thought with the average truck price being around $56K these days?) that the ordering window was short and many people who ordered the Ford Maverick in the first year has to wait over a year. In fact, due to supply chain issues, some people had to be carried over into the 2023 model year.
The Maverick went on sale in late 2021 for the 2022 model year. Sales for the 2023 model opened in August of 2022 and were only open for three days.
After waiting all summer in 2022 for the ordering window to be open, back in September 2022, I ordered my Ford Maverick Hybrid. I was told at the time that certain options would be rare so you had to order carefully. Things like the spray-in bedliner or certain colors might hold things up. One of the options that was supposed to make the wait longer was the hybrid. Only 35% of the Ford Mavericks made in 2023 were going to be hybrids despite the hybrid being the base model for the Ford Maverick.
For me, the hybrid was a no-brainer. At 42 MPG in the city, this demure pickup truck will get better gas mileage than our 2018 Mazda CX3. And I think that was the original point of the Ford Maverick, to be a family car that gets good gas mileage so it can be an everyday car.
The only thing better would have been a plug-in hybrid version so I could charge it with my solar panels.
Here are a few accessories I got for my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid:
