This article discusses the challenges of photographing pets like small dogs.
When the wife goes off to work and the son goes off to school, no one is left to model for me but the dog.
Which is fine with me as human models tend to have a lot of complaints, but the dog seems eager to model as soon as he sees the studio lights come out.
A dog has simple needs, a few treats and he’ll pose for as many photos as you want. No concern about getting the right side of the face, making him look thinner or lighting to reduce wrinkles or double chins.
I’ve done a whole series of photographs with my dog Tiki, a West Highlands White Terrier or Westie.
He’s been a ballerina dance, Aladdin, an old Vaudeville Actor, a nerd, a fine English gentleman and simply a cute dog getting a bath.
