Spotting those rare pink cars

Pink cars are a rare sight these days. But back in the fifties, they seemed more abundant. The most famous one being Elvis Presley’s 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood with its pink paint job.

Old Pink Edsel Car In Front Of Old House

As a style setter, this big pink car was copied by others around the world. Back then Ford was the only car manufacturer offering a pink car but after the popularity of Elvis’s pink caddy, individual car owners began to re-paint their cars pink, so you might find vintage cars from other manufacturer’s painted pink.

The pink caddy as an icon has been celebrated in pop culture including several songs such as Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac”.

Pink Caddy In The Desert
by Edward Fielding

I love you for your pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Cruising down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey I just wonder what you do there in back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

– lyric except from Bruce Springsteen’s song “Pink Cadillac”

The term Pink Cadillac obviously has sexual connotations.
