Traveling with a photography tripod stinks. The problem is the most versatile and useful tripod is going to be a rock solid sturdy tripod and one that can extend as far as you need to work in any situation you find yourself in.
For video a tripod is a must. For long exposure photography a tripod is a necessity. For night time photograph, a tripod is required.
But when traveling a tripod is one more thing to carry. One more heavy item and one more thing that makes you stand out and gain unwanted attention.
I’ve gone through several options and most of them have failed because of the trade-offs. “Travel” tripods tend to be overly complicated to set up because they fold up so much and ultimately they are not solid enough to be much use.
The best solution is simply to low and go small. Small tripods that set up low to the ground and don’t extent all that much so they stay solid. Sure its a trade off on perspective but you gain so much portability that you are more likely to pack one of these little tripods rather than going without.
One of the best solutions is the $45 Manfrotto Pixi EVO 2 Section Mini Tripod https://amzn.to/2CCx5va
