The Ultimate Secret by https://allpoetry.com/FragileFlame
They left her there lying in her own blood
Her body was limp
Her skin seemed dry
Flashing lights roared into sight
Cops, firefighters, detectives
Were here to find out the reason behind the fight
And the woman from across the street
Came trembling to see that
Her little girl was hurt
And I watched silently from the forest
Shielded by the branches of trees but
Scared by my innocence
The blood was curdling now
Turning a dark brown
It made me sick to see how others could do something like this
And its this twisted memory that haunts me
The same feeling of pain comes flooding over me
I remember what happened very clearly whenever I see flashing headlights
Something goes off like a trigger
Like a gun letting a bullet go
Letting a bullet go…
Her body was distorted
Configured into unnatural positions
They had beaten her before they fired
Her mother was wailing
Crouched into a ball in the middle of the road
She had lost a beautiful thing
A beautiful thing in this terrible world
I trudged back to my white house
Through the thick and mud
Sticks and stones won’t break my bones
But a bullet will
Everything inside me is shaking
Everything inside me feels wrong
Everything inside me wants to go back and jump out of the brush
Everything inside me knows I can’t – what’s done is done
So I’ll say my prayers tonight
I’ll attend the service tomorrow
I’ll never tell a soul who did it
I’ll never tell a soul how I could have stopped it
