Top Three Junkyards in the World

Scrap yards, storage facilities and dismantling facilities are a photographer’s dream location!

  1. Davis–Monthan Air Force Base, Tucson, Arizona

Decommissioned warplanes put into storage just in case they are needed in the future at this storage facility in Tucson, Arizona where the dry weather helps to preserve the airplanes.

2. Chernobyl Vehicle Graveyard

After the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, thousands of Russian military vehicles become radioactive and rendered unusable.

3. Old Car City, White, Georgia

This old junkyard has cars from the early days of automobiles up to around 1972 when they were still made of “heavy metal” instead of plastic. The junkyard saw some years of disuse which allowed the fast growing trees of the American South grow right up inside some of the cars, lifting them off the ground. Old Car City in White, Georgia contains the worlds largest known classic car junkyard. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful vegetation of the deep south that is intertwined with the hundreds of cars that reside in Old Car City as well as folk art and a gift shop featuring the largest collection of painted syrofoam coffee cups. Today photographers rather than parts are the main income source for the scrapyard. $10 gets you in to roam about the old vehicles.
