Who invented American chop suey?

Who invented American chop suey?  My grandmother.  She would fry up some chopped onions and peppers, brown up some hamburger and then dump in a can Franco American pasta.

There you have it.  A true American dish made from assorted ingredients with suspect immigrant backgrounds, jumbled together and given a culturally ignorant name.

No doubt you’ve had some similar regional concoction like Chili Mac or American Goulash.  American Chop Suey is a New England tradition right up there with green bean casserole with the fried onions on top which can most likely trace their origin back to the label of some soup can or canned pasta.
