As part of our goal of reducing our carbon footprint, we purchased an efficient EPA wood stoves this year to offset propane usage and receive a tax credit for a bio mass heating appliance.
One drawback of the wood stove is smoke escaping into the room when loading a log. Our tight house cause a puff of smoke to escape.
This can be lessened by strictly following some of these guidelines:
- Wait until the flames are died down before adding a new log. Glowing embers don’t produce smoke.
- Open the bypass, wait for the air flow to settle, then open the door a crack and let the air settle before loading
- Open a window or door a crack to add some positive pressure.
But still, depending on the wood that was burning or impatience of loading the stove up before bed or something, some smoke escapes so there is a need for an air purifier to remove the smell and smoke particles.
